#64 Return Of The Living Dead IV: Necropolis 2005

I think I need a new nickname. How does Mad Dog Flint sound?

Okay I have been kind of lazy about watching movies and posting my comments here. Plus my next few Netflix movies aren't zombie movies. I will try to better. Please don't be mad.

Peter Coyote retrieves more barrels of Trioxin that somehow ended up in Chernobyl. He brings them back to his giant evil corporation to do experiments on people that his company kidnaps from the local area. When they abduct a young man who was in a cycle accident his biker friends rally to rescue him. In their attempt to break into the building they inadvertantly release the zombie experiments.

#63 Return Of The Living Dead 3 1993

Well I was a little disappointed on two counts. First, the two guys who were in the first two movies were not in this one. Second, the first two movies were funny and this one was not.

This time the Army doesn't lose a container of 2-4-5 Trioxin (sounds made up). They are using it to find a way of creating and controlling super soldiers. The commanding officer's son sneaks in and observes them bringing a corpse back to life. So naturally when his girlfriend is in a motorcycle accident he sneaks back onto the base and brings her back from the dead. She slowly turns into a zombie. The only thing that stops her from eating him is her undying love and by jabbing bits of metal and glass into her skin to cause herself pain. They end up being chased into the sewers by a group of hispanic guys that want to kill them. The Army catches them and intends to continue their experiments with the girlfriend as the new subject. Will he rescue the girlfriend or will he die trying?

#62 Return Of The Living Dead 2 1988

The two main actors from the first installment return to the second playing different characters with the same end result. They both die and turn into zombies. I hope they are in all 5 of the films.

Kids inadvertently open another container of zombie creating trioxin that the Army lost. Coincidentally the container is right next to a cemetery. The dead return and overrun the town. The few survivors lure the undead to the local power plant and electrocute them all. It could totally happen too.

#61 Zombiez 2004

Ugh. Half of this movie was just watching this woman run from zombies. The plot was...well there wasn't one. The zombies were...well there weren't any real zombies. The music was...well there was one tune over and over.

A woman is attacked by zombies, that look nothing like zombies. She runs from them. All the while the same song plays over and over.

#60 The Return of the Living Dead 1985

I liked this one a little bit. It had some funny bits, without trying to be too funny.

A new employee at a medical supply company inadvertently opens a misshipped army experiment and releases a chemical which makes him undead and reanimates some of the cadavers in storage. After dismembering the reanimated cadaver they dispose of the parts by burning them in the crematorium across the street. Unfortunately the ashes mix with the rain and reanimate an entire cemetery. The whole place gets nuked in the end and then another rain shower begins. Oooooh scary.

#59 Day of the Dead 2: Contagium 2005

One blurb I read about this claims it is a prequel to the Romero movies. If it was there was no real direct connection that I could see. I guess they were just making an attempt at explaining the origin of the zombie epidemic. I prefer to have it unexplained. The unknown is usually scarier. Romero had nothing to do with this film and so it is not that good.

Mental patients happen upon a thermos which contains an unknown viral agent, most likely of extraterrestrial origin. Those exposed directly to it become undead zombie like creatures that retain their motor function and high CAC score (although they are mental patients so they still have some issues). They are also mentally linked and no what each other are thinking and feeling. The people that they bite turn into truer zombies.

#58 Land Of The Dead 2005

Okay the last of the Romero movies. This wasn't bad, but I did like some of the others better. So now the zombies have started acting more like the living. Returning to jobs and old habits. Learning to use weapons and fight the living rather than just eat them. Showing emotions when one of their own is killed.

On a routine mission to get food and supplies a group of living piss off the dead. The dead are out for revenge and make a little trip to the nearby city where the rich live in the protected skyscraper while the poor have to eke out a living in the ruins of the walled in city. You can only fight off the undead hordes for so long.

An interesting thing for me was one of the extras. There is a scene in the movie where two zombies are chained up and people can have their pictures taken with them. Turns out the two zombies are co-writers of Shaun Of The Dead, which I have seen but have to re-watch for this project.

#57 Day Of The Dead 1985

I'm liking these Romero movies. They are each good by themselves, but when put together the overall story arc is good too. You get to see how the zombies change over time, which I will discuss after watching the last film in the series. The main zombie in this movie, "Bub", is quite likeable.

A while after the zombie epidemic has begun a group of scientists work on finding solutions to the zombie problem. While one looks for a viral cause in hopes of creating the cure, another works on conditioning the zombies to make them docile and trainable. Unfortunately, the gung-ho military men that are protecting the scientists are losing their patience and their minds.

#56 Dawn Of The Dead 1978

This was the original version. I liked the 2004 version. I like this one too, but for different reasons. It is kind of hard to compare the two because they are totally different. None of the characters are the same and the plot is different too. The only similarity was that the people were holed up in a mall. It was also more of a direct sequel to NOTLD.

A newscopter pilot, his pregnant girlfriend and two cops fly around looking for safe refuge. They stop for supplies at a shopping mall and realize that it would be a great place to dig in and wait it out. But they have to clean out all the zombies already in the mall and defend it from a biker gang who wants it for themselves.

#55 Zombie Brigade 1986

Another zombies vs vampires kind of movie, set in the Australian outback.

The locals blow up a war memorial in order to start building Robot Man amusement park with money from a visiting Japanese business man. Unfortunately this releases the undead war vets who were contained within it. I think this batch of undead was really vampires and not zombies. At least they had fangs. The government has contained the small town by surrounding it with land mines. The only thing they can do is unbury other war vets from the town cemetary and bring them back from the dead to fight the first batch of undead. All the while racial tensions are rampant between the white town folk, the Aborigines (is that politically correct) and the Japanese investors.

#54 Zombie Planet 2004

PU! What a stinky movie.

The zombies were the crappy talking, intelligent, fighting with weapons, crappy kind. Which I could deal with. But the acting was oh so ho-rible and the fight seens were really pretty pathetic. Plus the zombie aspect wasn't very important to the movie.

After a drug to control carb cravings has turned half the world into zombies and a lone wolf warrior shows up with no memory of his past. He helps a small group of people stand up to the man who runs the area but answers to the government. Once in a while someone is out at night and killed by a zombie.

#53 Zombie Honeymoon 2004

Miss me? Did ya?

I have been otherwise occupied and haven't been watching much lately. I still haven't watched the 2 hour finales of Lost and 24. Don't tell me how they end.

When this one started I thought it was going to be total crap. But it turned out to be an okay one.

After being attacked, by a zombie who walks out of the ocean, while on his honeymoon the vegetarian bridegroom dies for 10 minutes and then miraculously comes back to life. Things seem normal for a short while then he starts eating neighbors. The blushing bride decides to stick with him despite his recent demise. A sweet little love story with zombies.
